Sharing Your Things

Keep a list of things you could lend, such as a ladder, a book or a camping kit. Open My things from the menu. Your new items are private until you share them.

Add and manage an item

Choose Add item, give it a name, choose a category and optionally describe its condition. Save it to your personal list. Use Edit to update it, or Delete and confirm to remove it.

Choose Share beside an item, select the communities that may see it, then Save sharing. Only communities where you are an active member are valid choices. Uncheck every community to make the item private again. Other members do not see your private items.

Availability and membership

Choose Mark unavailable when you cannot share an item. Only you can see it while unavailable; your community selections stay saved. Mark available restores visibility to those communities. Leaving a community hides your shared items there. Rejoining makes the saved shares visible again.

Browse shared things

A community's Shared things tab has two sections: Community-owned things and Shared by members. Active members see available items. Active admins manage community-owned items and can also see unavailable community property.

This catalog does not track loans, due dates or returns. Adding an item does not create a help request.

Asking to borrow

On an available item in Shared things, choose Ask to borrow. You can also open the item to see its details and borrow form. Choose a duration of 1–30 days and optionally add a return date and note. When the item is shared through several communities, choose which community the ask belongs to. Borrow choices include only communities where the owner still belongs. If sharing changes while you compose, refresh the item or choose another available community. You cannot ask to borrow your own item.

Send private ask opens the request detail. Only you and the personal owner can see it; for community property, you and that community's current active admins can see it. A person who already offered retains their own exchange history even if their admin role later changes. The ask stays out of community feeds, browse lists and exports, including yours.

Recipients receive an in-app notification and see Asked of you in the Helping tab. Choose Offer to start the usual acceptance, messaging and completion flow. The ask then leaves the inbox and appears among commitments. Both participants earn normal exchange karma. You both keep Mark done and Leave feedback prompts for the private exchange. Sending again opens your existing open ask for that item, preserving its original terms. Notification outages do not discard a saved ask; delivery retries without duplicating notifications. The catalog remains available until its manager changes its status; an ask does not reserve an item.
